FIRST VISIT

FIRST VISIT/WHAT TO EXPECT

What should I expect during my first appointment?

Please plan to arrive at least 10-15 minutes before your start time. I will ask you to fill out a health history and intake form, which we will review in detail prior to beginning your session. Together, we will discuss a gameplan for the session and review boundaries.

Do I need to undress, and how will I be draped?

Please undress to your level of comfort, knowing that regardless of what you do or do not wear, your body will be appropriately draped to cover sensitive and intimate areas. I will only uncover areas that I am actively working on, meaning the rest of your body will be draped at all times.

What should I wear, and do I need to bring anything?

I recommend comfy clothes (because the post-massage lethargy can be a lot!), but feel free to come in your work or day clothes. I just ask that you please be mindful of personal hygiene, and use common sense when coming to your appointment. For example, please don’t come to your appointment straight after a hot yoga or gym sesh without showering first.

Should I arrive early, and is there paperwork to complete?

Yes, please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment start time. While there is a free parking lot adjacent to and behind the building, as well as free street parking, I ask that you allow extra time to locate a parking space so as to not interfere with your session start time (we are in Capitol Hill after all!) I will ask you to complete a health history and intake form prior to your appointment.

Will I be able to talk during the session, or is silence okay?

I encourage silence during the session as much as possible. This allows me to remain hyper-focused during your session, and for you to stay present and grounded in your breath and body during the massage session.

CHOOSING A SERVICE

CHOOSING A SERVICE

What types of massage do you offer, and how do I choose?

As an integrated massage practitioner, I offer a few different kinds of massages, each designed to best support your wellness goals. I offer Intuitive Massages, Ritual Massages, and Thai Yoga Massage. Please see each page to review these services in more detail.

What’s the difference between Swedish, deep tissue, and sports massage?

Swedish massage is a Western modality that is designed with relaxation in mind, to promote blood flow and circulation, decrease stress, calm the nervouse system, and provide gentle relief from aches, pains and generalized body soreness. Deep Tissue massage is a therapeutic approach that utilizes petrissage techniques, such as kneading and rolling, combined with other techniques like myofascial release and trigger point therapy to relax tight muscles and provide targeted relief. Sports Massage utilizes a combination of range of motion, passive and assisted stretching, deep compressions, and neuromuscular therapies (such as trigger point therapy) to aid in recovery. My Sports Ritual Massage also includes both silicone and/or vacuum cupping and gua sha as therapeutic tools.

How long should my session be (60, 90, or 120 minutes)?

All session lengths are beneficial and provide relief and relaxation. Longer sessions do allow for more targeted and detailed work, including more opportunities to incorporate other therapeutic tools at no extra cost, but it is ultimately up to you to determine what session lengths and cadence make sense for your lifestyle. Some bodywork is better than none at all!

Do you offer prenatal or couples massage?

Yes, I do offer prenatal and postnatal massage. I do not currently offer couples massage.

Can I request a specific pressure level or focus area?

Yes, of course! Each session is designed to support you and your body, and no one knows what it's like to exist as you besides YOU. We will review pressure levels, preferences, and areas of focus prior to our session start time. I will also check in with you during the massage to ensure your continued comfort. I encourage all my clients to please speak up if anything feels extra good or extra bad. We can stop the session at any time for any reason, and I will always respect your comfort and safety.

CLIENT COMFORT AND BOUNDARIES

CLIENT COMFORT AND BOUNDARIES

What if I’m nervous or have never had a massage?

Trying anything for the first time, especially if it's out of your comfort zone, always has the potential to cause nerves and anxiety. I understand that the idea of receiving a massage can leave you feeling vulnerable in an unfamiliar environment. I do my best to make all my clients feel heard, understood, cared for, and ultimately, safe. If you have struggled with PTSD, anxiety, domestic violence, have trauma around physical touch, or have suffered any kind of abuse, I want you to know that you are safe and welcome here, and in the hands of a trauma-informed practitioner.

Can I ask you to adjust the pressure or stop at any time?

Yes, of course! Each session is designed to support you and your body, and no one knows what it's like to exist as you besides YOU. We will review pressure levels, preferences, and areas of focus prior to our session start time. I will also check in with you during the massage to ensure your continued comfort. I encourage all my clients to please speak up if anything feels extra good or extra bad. We can stop the session at any time for any reason, and I will always respect your comfort and safety.

How do you protect my privacy and modesty?

I always exit the room while you undress and get comfortable on the table. I only undrape areas that are actively being worked on, meaning the rest of your body will remain draped and covered at all times.

Is massage supposed to hurt?

No, massage is never supposed to hurt. Deeper, therapeutic work can be intense (think: "this hurts SO GOOD"), but it should never go past your pain threshold. If you are uncomfortable with the pressure, technique, body positioning, or anything else during your session, please speak up and I will address it immediately. Some general soreness can be expected after your appointment.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

HEALTH

Are there conditions that mean I shouldn’t get a massage (pregnancy, blood clots, recent surgery, fever)?

You should reschedule if you have:

  • A fever or contagious illness, such as the flu, a cold, or a stomach bug. Rest is the best medicine here, and it protects me and other clients too. I’ll happily rebook you without a late-cancel fee.

  • A skin infection, open wound, or rash in the area to be treated.

  • A recent acute injury with swelling, heat, or severe pain.

Please talk to your doctor first if you have:

  • A history of blood clots (such as DVT) or a current clot. Massage can be risky in this case, so I’ll need medical clearance first.

  • Recent surgery. Depending on the procedure and your healing, we may need to wait or avoid certain areas.

  • Heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or circulatory problems.

  • Cancer or current cancer treatment.

  • Osteoporosis, recent fractures, or severe varicose veins.

  • A condition that affects bruising or bleeding, including blood-thinning medication.

Pregnancy: Massage can be a wonderful support during pregnancy, and I love working with expecting mothers. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, if you’ve had complications, please check with your provider first. Prenatal massage is only acceptable during the second and third trimesters.

Please share your health history on the intake form and tell me about any changes before each visit. If you’re not sure whether something applies to you, just ask. I’d rather have the conversation than have you guess.

Do I need a doctor’s note for certain conditions?

Not for most people. For many conditions, a conversation and your intake form are all we need.

In some situations, I may ask for a note or written clearance from your doctor before we begin. This is most common with a history of blood clots, recent surgery, active cancer treatment, serious heart conditions, or a high-risk pregnancy. It’s not meant as a hurdle. It helps me tailor your session safely and know which areas or techniques to avoid.

If you’re unsure whether you need one, call or message me before booking and we’ll sort it out together.

Can I get a massage if I’m sick or have a cold?

To respect both our wellness and safety, please do not get a massage if you are actively sick or have a cold.

How do you sanitize your space and linens?

I use one set of linens per customer and wash all linens in a dye- and fragrance-free detergent the same day. I sanitize with an array of cleaners, such as Decon-30, isopropyl alcohol, essential oils, and Clorox. All used tools are cleaned thoroughly after each session.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, I am actively licensed in the state of Colorado (license# MT0028169) and insured through the Association of Bodywork and Massage Professionals.

BOOKING

BOOKING AND LOGISTICS

How do I book, reschedule, or cancel?

Please use my website whenever possible to book your appointment. Text me at 720-248-8338 if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment.

What’s your cancellation and late policy?

I have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. Please avoid late cancellations when possible to avoid a $50 cancellation fee.

What if I arrive late?

Please avoid arriving late as much as possible. I will do my best to make up any time lost due to late arrivals (I get it, traffic can be rough, mercury likes to go retrograde, life happens), I often have appointments back-to-back, meaning your session length gets shortened so as not to impact clients visiting after your session.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, Venmo, Apple Pay, Credit Card, and Zelle. I am also always open to discussing trades!

Do you offer packages, memberships, or gift certificates?

I currently offer packages and gift cards. You can purchase them here. I do not currently offer a membership.

Where do I park, and is the space accessible?

There is a free parking lot adjacent to and behind the building, which includes at least one accessible spot, as well as free street parking. My studio is located in the basement of the building and is only accessible via stairs (no elevator). If you are interested in home massage care, please text me at 720-248-8338.

What is your Kindness Karma rate and who may receive it?

INSURANCE AND PAYMENT

INSURANCE/PAYMENT

Do you accept insurance, HSA, or FSA?

I do not accept insurance, HSA or FSA at this time.

Can I get a receipt for reimbursement?

Yes, please ask for a receipt upon checkout or following your appointment.

Do you accept tips?

Tips are never required, but they’re always received with gratitude. Your session is just one part of what goes into this work. As a solo practitioner, I also take care of the behind-the-scenes details, from prepping the space to bookkeeping and marketing, so any kindness is truly appreciated.
